Please use the feedback form on this page to report typos, errors, glitches, or other issues about our benchmark tests. And please be specific – include the test, the grade level, the subject, and, if appropriate, the item number(s).
As issues are reported, we will post notifications on this page’s comment stream. So, to stay informed of all reported benchmark issues, subscribe to this page’s notifications by entering your email address here.
The district benchmarks are stored – securely – in Google Apps. Only district personnel with explicit rights have access.
So the first step is to get a District Google Apps for Education account by submitting this form.
When your account has been setup you will receive an email with your Google Apps account information.
The Google Apps login page is at spart7.info/googleapps (linked on the right sidebar of this portal’s home page.)

'Gotcha!'
Logging onto Google Apps the first time can be a bit trying because of the security measures in place. The ‘Captcha’ image can be ridiculously difficult to decipher (Jennifer Dowis calls it the ‘Gotcha!’ image), so hang in there if it takes a try or three.
After you login the first time with the default password provided for you, set your own password. I recommend using your Outlook password. Remember, keep your Google Apps account private and secure!

Shared Folder
After you get through the initial login and account setup process (a one-time ordeal), you will at last arrive in Google Docs where, if your account has been properly setup, you will see a long list of benchmark files. That is the default view of your Google Docs account: a list of all the files you have access to. The benchmark files are there because they have been ‘shared’ with your account by Google Apps Benchmarks account.
To see the benchmarks in a more organized file structure, just click the ‘Collections shared with me‘ link on the left sidebar. (Google now calls folders ‘Collections’)

Download Link
Finally, note that when viewed in Google Docs, the benchmark document is not open in MS Word. You can view the document, and browse it, even search it, but in order to print the benchmark you will want to click the ‘Download’ link.

3 = Grade
1 = Subject (ELA) (2 = Math; 3 = Science; 4 = Social Studies)
2 = Test #2
Another example: 7743 = 7th grade Social Studies 3rd 9 Weeks.
3rd Grade Math has 2 tests for 3rd nine weeks. The ViaTest answer keys are 73231 and 73232
3rd Grade Social Studies has 2 tests for 3rd nine weeks. The ViaTest answer keys are 73431 and 73432
All EOC benchmarks begin with a 3. The first 3 digit group denotes the subject, and the last digit denotes benchmark number.

It may be necessary to copy answer keys from one school to another.
For example, say we need to add the 6th grade answer keys to a middle school ViaTest server. We will do so by exporting the 6th grade answer keys from the curriculum database on an elementary school server, and then copying the output to the middle school ViaTest server.
- Create a folder named ‘export’ in the ViaTest folder of the elementary school from which the answer keys will be exported (the source school).
- Copy the file ‘CurricEx.exe’ to the source school’s ViaTest folder, and then launch the file and login to the VT server.
- Export Database Options = Merge into existing database (we will be adding the 6th grade answer keys to the destination school folder).
- When the export is complete, copy the two files that should now appear in the export folder you created (a xcurric.mdb and a .xml file) to the ViaTest folder of the destination school.
- NOW, the next time the destination school runs ViaTest, they should see a message that the database will be updated.
The ViaTest client software is used by school administrators to preslug answer sheets, scan answer sheets, and produce reports. The client software can be installed on any administrator’s computer in about 5-minutes by this procedure:
- Browse My Computer to this destination: G: Applications > ViaTest > Client > Setup.exe
- When prompted to choose the destination for the client files, change the drive letter to G:
- Accept all defaults throughout the rest of the installation
- Click the ‘Pre-Slug’ icon on the vertical menu bar
- Be sure the ‘Pre-Slug’ tab is selected
- In ‘Pre-slug for:’ choose ‘Classes by subject and grade’
- Choose your test by clicking the binoculars browse icon
- Choose the appropriate subject & grade
- Load scan sheets, click Select Printer and print
- Click the Classes icon on the vertical menu bar
- Click the Class List tab
- Go to the teacher’s class either by ‘Find’ or by clicking the arrow tabs on the toolbar to scroll through the class list
- Click the ‘Enroll student in class’ button and choose the student from the master list
- Choose Pre-Slug button on the menu bar.
- The Pre-Slug Test forms window will display.
- Select ‘Students in one class’ in the ‘Pre-slug for:’ drop-down
- Click the binocular icons to select the ‘Test Number:’ and ‘Class ID:’
- After all the fields are complete, Click the ‘Students’ tab
- Leave a check next to each student for which you need to pre-slug.
- Be sure that the scan forms are loaded in your printer.
- Be sure that you have aligned the pre-slug marks
- Click the Print button when ready to slug one form for each student in the class with a check mark next to his name.
When distributing answer forms, please make sure teachers and students are advised:
- Not to use any metal or adhesive on them, including staples, paper clips, clamps, sticky notes, etc.
- Not to fold, bend, spindle, mutilate, eat, etc.
- Not to let students, food, drink and the answer sheets be in the same place at the same time!
- To return the forms in the same (alphabetical) order as received
The Scantron Opscan 4U scanner is used to score answer sheets. The district has an annual, onsite maintenance contract with Harland Technology Services.

Elementary Schools: It looks like some of your school answer keys are not updated somehow?
Just to be extra triple sure, I am going to ‘refresh’ everyone’s answer keys today – that goes just for elementary schools…
Issue: Middle Schools will not see 6th grade tests until the ‘Curriculum Exchanger’ is run. Harry will help me get through that hopefully today.
2011-2012 Steps to update your answer key for this school year Benchmarks.
1. Open the ViaTest folder on the G:\ drive. G:\ViaTest\
2. Click on the Name tag to put the folders and files in alphabetical order
3. Find the following two files: 1. Curric.mdb and 2. Curric.mdbsept292012
4. Rename Curric.mdb to Curric.mdbold {right-click on the name and choose “rename”}
5. Rename Curric.mdbsept292012 to Curric.mdb
You have now the current and updated answer keys.
FYI – the .mdb is a file extension for database
Thanks Larry!
Guys, every elementary school should be able to do the above now. We updated the answer keys yesterday for Grades 2 – 5. All others remain unchanged to my knowledge!
