Pick Your Beat
Thank you to all of those who showed up for the Book Club last Friday. We had a great discussion about books and talked about starring books of exceptional quality.
The theme for Teen Read Week is Books With Beat. Teen Read Week takes place from October 17 - 23. Students can pick their favorite books with beat, put them in a special area in the library, and get a sign saying that section is THEIR section! Anna adopted poetry, and Maggie adopted medicine, but there are more Beat ideas:
music
crime
health
sports
Adopt one of these “beat” areas or come up with your own! Let the library staff know if you are interested in adopting a section for Teen Read Week.
Analyzing Ads
Mr. Gosnell brought his classes in to analyze ads. While they were here, I took the opportunity to ad lib my own commercial for Playaways. The students searched for ads related to health (smoking, eating, body image) and took notes on what the advertiser did to make the ad attractive (color, sex appeal).
Media literacy + library = perfect fit!
Get Local @ Your Library - Section of the Week
